Just received from Israel (re assisting Prime Minister Netanayhu who is trying to stand strongly against the Palestinian state issue):

 

LET'S GET SERIOUS ABOUT COMBATING THE PALESTINIAN STATE NOTION

We need the help of all major Orthodox public affairs and media organizations  in the United States to combat the Palestinian state notion. So far, only wonderful Young Israel has really started working to keep those rockets away from Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv and Ben-Gurion airport. If we aren't speaking for A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE, these organizations (Agudath Yisroel, AMIT, Emuna Women, Nachum Segal Radio Show, Yated Neeman, etc.) will simply say NO when we ask for their help. So, we need several thousand people to sign this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/1eys/petition.html.

We will then promptly approach each of the Orthodox Jewish media and public affairs organizations in the name of the whole group and ask them to help.  Prime Minister Netanyahu's first trip to the US is in a few days time so please sign TODAY and pass on. Thank you very much. Notes:

REHOVOT SAYS NO TO PALESTINIAN STATE

"Dear Ms. Clinton,

"This letter was originally written in Hebrew, which you would probably have trouble reading. However, I know that more than a language barrier stands between us. More than 3,000 years of history make a difference too.

"There are historic lessons and perspectives that the Jewish people learned in person. At this time, on the eve of Purim, when again we see a Persian archenemy planning to exterminate us, all the ancient defense mechanisms are emerging within us - the ones that refuse to buy into the false promises of those who view themselves as Israel`s friends, and as such tell us what is good for the Jewish people and for the State of Israel.

"You came here from the world`s greatest and strongest democracy. You come from the Democratic Party and you know how to recite the familiar mantras, claiming that the United States respects Israel`s democracy and will cooperate with any elected Israeli government.

"Well, Israeli democracy has spoken: Most Israeli citizens do not wish to establish an Arab terror state in our homeland. If your democracy is real, you should of course respect the democracy of others as well.

"However, as we all realize that what guides the US is not democracy in other countries, but rather, what the American Administration perceives as American interests - it would be worthwhile to remind you of Einstein`s definition for madness. He said that madness is the attempt to repeat the same action time and again, in the hopes that the result will be different next time.

Encouraging terrorism

"Nobody really thinks that words or economic sanctions will prevent Iran from producing nuclear weapons.

"America`s declarations that it will destroy Iran should it dare attack Israel with nuclear weapons don`t help us, because we are unwilling to be the excuse for attacking Iran after we`ve already been exterminated.

"This too is a historical lesson we bear. We are also unwilling to see the desire to appease the Sunnis in Iraq to prompt an American payment to the Syrians and Palestinians.

"Don`t you understand that pressing Israel to renounce the Golan Heights in order to buy Syrian cooperation with the withdrawal from Iraq will not calm the Mideast, bring peace, or reinforce western democracy?

"Rather, it will encourage the Arabs to continue on the path of terrorism because you will prove to them that terrorism pays off.

"Dozens of bloody conflicts are taking place worldwide. The vast majority pit Muslims against their neighbors. The US is not fighting Jihadist terror in Afghanistan and Iraq because Israel is building houses in the West Bank..."

Secretary of State Clinton, I agree with Knesset Member Arieh Eldad and I believe the Obama Administration should not encourage establishment of a Palestinian state. A terrorist state led by Hamas would present another existential threat to the security of Israel at the same time the tiny democracy is targeted by a potentially nuclear Iran.

New Obama appointee may hurt Israel

News has broken of the impending appointment of Chas W. Freeman Jr. to the chairmanship of the National Intelligence Council.

Freeman was U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1989-1992.  Here are quotes (emphasis added) which are characteristic of his hostile attitude towards Israel:

 

"Those in the region and beyond it who detest Israeli behavior, which is to say almost everyone, now naturally extend their loathing to Americans." (speech at Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs in 2007)

 

"[T]he Jewish state continues to seize ever more Arab land for its colonists."  speech for Middle East Policy Council, Oct. 4, 2007

There are two reasons for concern. One is with regard to the damage Freeman can do. As chairman of the National Intelligence Council, Freeman would have the major influence on the intelligence briefings presented to the president (remember the damage caused by the National Intelligence Estimate, the NIE, in 2007, which erroneously downplayed the dangers of Iran), and would be called upon often to give direct briefings to the President.

 

The other reason for concern is what is implied by the appointment of Freeman.  A president who seeks to maintain an Israel policy that is even passively benign (not out to hurt Israel) simply does not select someone like Freeman to the top intelligence post -- someone like Freeman to depend upon for securing intelligence information.  

 

It may not be too late to stop this. Also, silence now invites additional problematic appointments later.  Please let members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence know how concerned Americans are by the possible appointment of Freeman.  Please, address them with courtesy; some are very warmly predisposed to Israel.  Phone or fax are better than email. Explain:

 

• Freeman's appointment would be detrimental to the true interests of the US and the Western world. 
• Freeman would seriously undermine support for the only democracy, and the bastion of Western values, in the  Middle East. 
• Israel is at the forefront of the fight against radical jihadism, which is of concern to all democracies. Israel should not be weakened, as Freeman would seek to do. 
• Freeman's perceptions of Israel are badly skewed and dangerous.

    The youth involved have been working hard to make this campaign a serious reality. After the expulsion from Gush Katif many youth in America were shocked, and vowed not to remain silent in the face of another expulsion. Parents, grandparents and teachers: encourage us, help us, forward this email to young people you know, and even join us!

Background information:

• The principle -- giving up  Yehudah and the Shomron & Giving up Yerushalayim is the same principle so if you concede the 1st, you will eventually be forced to concede the 2nd

• Giving away parts of Yehudah and the Shomron endangers Yerushalayim, so it is impossible to save Yerushalyim if Yehuda and the Shomron are ignored: -- if you have a Palestinian State chas vechalila, Yerushalyim is 5 minutes away from it so ostensibly hanging onto Yerushalyim is really meaningless, Palestinian state means (among other things) that Yerushalayim will not be livable for Jews. Also, according to Jewish tradition, the Avoda in the Bais Hamikdash can not begin without seeing the daylight in Hebron (Brachot, Perek 3).

•  The existence of the only Jewish state in the world is at stake -- giving up Yehudah and the Shomron and setting up a Palestinian State means NO ISRAEL.  The reason is because Lebanon (which was last summer's danger) imperils "only" Israel's sparsely populated north. Gaza (which is the current danger) imperils "only'  Israel's sparsely populated south. PAL. STATE IN Judea and Samaria IMPERILS ISRAEL'S VERY HEAVILY POPULATED CENTER REGION because it is just a bike ride away from there. many many people, all the business centers, sole International airport etc. so the country physically would not be viable.

Common sense points made by the Lubavitch Rebbe, zt"l, one of the greatest of the American Jewish leaders:

 

The duty to protest falls squarely on the shoulders of the Rabbis. This obligation falls upon all Rabbis who arbitrate practical matters of Jewish law — whether in Israel or in the Diaspora.     2.    A  Rabbi must not wait until he is asked. Rather, he must see to it that "there will not be a single individual who has not heard of this ruling." This is because regarding these matters, "he who asks (rather than acts) is a spiller of blood, and the one who waits to be asked is contemptible".       3.     One should publicize the decision of the "Great Assembly" of 1937,  which states that "it is forbidden to cede to a non-Jew, even a tiny strip of the Land of Israel", until the entire Jewish people are aware of this ruling.       4.    At times the situation is such that there is nothing left to do but to protest. This is a precise indication that our task in this situation is to protest.       5.    The Rabbi must protest without fear, and without considering the reaction which may follow his ruling (such as being ignored); especially because this is an ongoing matter, which concerns saving Jewish lives.       6.    The obligation not to stand idly by while your brother's blood is being spilled, applies in every situation, even when one is uncertain that his protest will have any effect. Even if the chance that protest will assist is only one thousandth of a chance, or a fraction of that, one is obligated to protest, because this is the law in the Code of Jewish Law. Even if the majority remain silent, and those protesting are in the minority, nevertheless, the minority is taken into consideration.       7.    The Rabbis who remain silent cause the greatest damage. This is analagous to the Talmudic law concerning seventy Rabbinic judges who rule for or against a certain side, with one judge "abstaining." CAMERA: Washington Post obsessive-compulsive about settlements, ignores terrorism against Israel

In "Mutual Dismay Over Jewish Settlements (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/19/AR2008051902449.html?referrer=emailarticle) (May 20), The Washington Post ran a long article on Israel's construction of Jewish neighborhoods and communities in the disputed West Bank (Judea and Samaria). Errors of commission, omission and editorial judgment render the dispatch more promotional writing than reporting.

 

Major flaws

 

1. The Post quotes "Hagit Ofran, settlement expert for the Israeli advocacy group Peace Now."  Peace Now once made international headlines with a report charging that 86.4 percent of Ma'ale Adumim was built on private Arab land; the correct figure was less than 1 percent (0.54 percent). 

 

2. The Post's description of Ma'ale Adumim as "a settlement due east of Jerusalem" is misleading. Ma'ale Adumim is four miles from downtown Jerusalem -- closer to the Knesset, Israel's parliament, than suburban Bethesda, Md. is to the U.S. Capitol.

 

3. The Post declares, without attribution, that "the Palestinian nation, when and if it is created, will include the West Bank and Gaza."  In fact, the West Bank and Gaza Strip remain disputed territories: the unallocated five percent of the original British Mandate for Palestine  (Jordan comprises 77.5 percent, pre-'67 Israel 17.5 percent). The Post pre-judges the outcome of future events.

 

4. The Post writes that "to the Palestinians, expansion of settlements represents proof that Israel is not serious about wanting a deal." There's no mention at all of Palestinian behavior: thousands of rockets and other terrorist attacks launched from the Gaza Strip (after Israel razed two dozen settlements and evacuated nearly 9,000 settlers in 2005) that prove to Israelis that the Palestinian Arabs are not serious about wanting a deal.

 

Reinforcing this one-sided coverage, the accompanying chart notes, among other things, that in 2007 "the Quartet called on both parties to make progress on their Phase One Roadmap obligations, including an Israeli freeze on settlements." Glaringly omitted is the Palestinians' Phase One Roadmap obligation: to eliminate terrorist attacks on Israel and terrorist organizations.

 

5. The Post alleges that "at stake is the future of land that has been in dispute since 1967, when Israeli forces conquered Arab territory." In fact, the territory is not Arab. Its legal status and sovereignty have been in dispute since the British Mandate ended in 1948. Jordan then illegally occupied it, but Jewish rights to "settlement on the land" were recognized by the original League of Nations' mandate and later adopted by the United Nations, and have never lapsed. Here again, The Post commits Middle East revisionism.
